Gogamedi was killed by unidentified gunmen at his home in Jaipur on Tuesday afternoon.
The event took place near Shyamnagar.
According to NDTV , Gogamedi was shot dead at close range while having tea with his men. Gogamedi was the leader of the Karni Sena, which organized rallies against Padmaavat.
Gogamedi formed the Sri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena after he was expelled from the Sri Rajput Karni Sena in 2015 due to differences of opinion with the organisation’s founder, Lokendra Singh Kalvi.
Rajput groups have called for a bandh in Jaipur on Wednesday following the shooting death of Sri Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena leader Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi in Jaipur on Tuesday.
Even though other groups with the same name have emerged over the years, the Karni Sena has made headlines for various reasons, especially in the anti-Padmaavat protests.
The many Karni Senas
At present, the term “Karni Sena” is incorrectly used to refer to a comparatively large number of Rajput groups scattered throughout the North Indian states. Founded in 2006, the Sri Rajput Karni Sena (SRKS) is perhaps the oldest. A splinter group within this organization is led by Gogamedi.
Both late politician Lokendra Singh Kalvi and producer Ajit Singh Madoli claimed to have initiated SRKS. After the 2008 Rajasthan Assembly elections, Mamdoli and Kalvi split, formed rival parties with the same name and even filed suits against the name of SRKS
Kalvi and Karni Sena chief Murder Gogamedi
The 6 foot+ Kalvi was the most visible face of Karni Sena in the Padmaavat films, as he went to great lengths to mobilize the Rajputs of Uttar Pradesh against the film and even after his death in March this year, he is on ara is the tallest member of the Karni Sena .
Kalvi’s father was Kalyan Singh Kalvi, minister of Chief Minister Chandrashekhar. In 1993 and 1998, Lokendra Kalvi contested for the Lok Sabha as an independent and as a member of the BJP. Both times he was defeated. After leaving the BJP in 1999, Kalvi and another former BJP leader launched an agitation demanding reservation for the poor of the upper castes, including the Rajputs. He rejoined the BJP in 2004. Kalvi tried unsuccessfully for the Congress ticket in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections.
After a falling out between the two in 2015, Kalvi sacked Sukhdev Singh Shekhawat, also known as Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi, as the national president of his SRKS party and then Gogamedi formed SRRKS.
In October 2021, the merger of Mamdoli-led SRKS and Gogamedi-led SRRKS was announced. Gogamedi will remain president of SRRKS.
Mamdoli points out that there are now three Karni Senas with their origins directly in the 2006 SRKS: Kalvi’s son Bhawani Singh Kalvi heads one SRKS, Mahipal Singh Makran heads another, and Gogamedi III heads the SRRKS, where Mamdoli. Mr. is the intermediary of his country.
Rajput vs Jat
Mamdoli and Kalvi agree that the 2006 war against the long-standing Jat insurgency against the Rajputs led to the formation of the SRKS. In that year, Jeevan Ram Godra and Harful Ramjat were murdered in Didwana by Anandpal Singh, a Rajput, who was then the most notorious criminal in Rajasthan. The murders are reportedly linked to illegal alcohol control. Mamdoli and Kalvi claimed that the Jats were receiving support for their protest from several different politicians and that the police did not arrest any Rajput male associated with Anandpal.
SRKS was launched on September 23, 2006, with 11 stated objectives such as combating “political and social bigotry” against Rajputs, disseminating historical information and promoting Rajput unity to end its “hounding.” “. The resistant outfits are named after the famous Mouse Temple at Deshnok near Bikaner, the main shrine of Karni Mata Devi, worshiped throughout Rajasthan.
Demands and protests
SRKS criticized Ashutosh Gowariker’s Jodha Akbar in 2008, saying it was a “wrong portrayal of history”. In 2008, he even called for a bandh in Jaipur to protest the lathi allegations against Brahmins, saying the duty of “Kshatriyas” was to “protect society”.
SRKS declared a bandh in 2012 after the CBI arrested BJP legislator Rajendra Rathore, who became cabinet minister. The following year, SRKS met AICC chairperson Sonia Gandhi and threatened to sack the Congress think tank for reasons because of the hidden.
Over the years, SRKS has been calling for the erection of a statue of Maharana Pratap near the Kashmiri Gate ISBT in Delhi, as well as the recognition of Rajasthani as an official language under the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution.
As for SRRKS, members of the group attacked filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali during the shooting of Padmaavat at Jaigarh Fort in Jaipur in January 2017. More recently, in April this year, a group led by Gogamedi formed a saffron Mahapanchayat in Jaipur, and asked for 10% . EWS quota for common castes goes up to 14%.
Political relevance Karni Sena chief Murder
Traditionally, Jats have supported the Congress, while Rajasthanis in Rajasthan have sided with the BJP. Anger among Rajputs over the Padmaavat incident and Anandpal’s encounter has proved to be one of the major reasons for the BJP’s defeat in the 2018 Assembly elections.
Rajputs are one of the most influential and politically important communities in Rajasthan, accounting for about 25% of the state’s 200 assembly seats, or 25 key constituencies
According to Rajput officials, the Karni Sena is trying to gain prominence by endangering for itself the historic position of “foot soldiers” in the society.
